The last thing you want to do is loosen your embouchure and take in more mouthpiece. What you want to do is expand the back or tour mouth where your throat connect to the bottom of your jaw.Almost like a fish when their gills expand.

Well put. I find that instead of tounging and having the note burst from the horn, try starting the note with just air. No tongue. Crescendo and decrescendo. Its always good to practice your subtones too!

Another thing that I like to try and do is if I know I am going to play low notes, I tend to put more of the mouthpiece into my mouth to allow maximum buzzing of the reed...So if you focus on those few things: - loose bottom lip& - tending to take in more of the mouthpiece when playing low notesYou should get some result. Don't worry if you don't get it the first few times because hitting those low notes cause a common problem for most people!Hope this description helps!

Well some things that sax players tend to do wrong when playing low notes is still having a tense embouchure just as if they were playing higher ones. You really need to practice letting your bottom lip be relaxed, especially playing the low C. You have to let your lip be loose and flow with the reed. There should be hardly any tense on your bottom lip when playing low notes.

I just rented a tenor sax to try it out for a month or two and it's not that bad because I have a very musical background, but getting in the right ovtave constantly evades me, particularly when I play a low C. It always cracks and sounds about an octave higher than it should. Can anybody suggest something I might be doing wrong?
